The incident happened just as the PSNI warned drivers to beware hail storms on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, the Roads Service also issued a weather warning, saying: “Frost forecast. Salting of main routes has been carried out. Road users should take care particularly when travelling on untreated routes.”

There was utter chaos on the Province’s road system on Friday following a string of crashes on the M1 – including a fatal incident.
