The stoppage by Nipsa members coincided with the deadline for registering an EU referendum postal vote, and another walkout is planned for June 7 – the final date for voter registration. The referendum will take place on June 23.

The six offices affected are in Ballymena, Banbridge, Londonderry, Newtownabbey, Newtownards and Omagh.

Alison Millar of Nipsa said it was vital they remain open “to ensure all communities can actively participate in our democracy”.
