Strong winds and rain replace weekend snow

Today the Province is braced for high winds and sleet showers, with the snowfall of Saturday only expected to be repeated in hilly areas.

Frequent and heavy squally showers, with the risk of hail and thunder, are likely in many areas.

The best of the brightness will be in the east, while the strongest winds will be in coastal areas where gale or severe gale force southwesterly winds could develop later.

The maximum temperature will be 11C.

Showers will continue overnight into tomorrow turning wintry again in some areas.

The gales will gradually ease to leave Wednesday looking fair in the morning.
