Teenage girl and others released over flat arson probe

The PSNI in north Belfast have released two teenagers and two women in their 20s following an arson attack at a flat in west Belfast.

It happened in Agnes Street, between the Shankill and Crumlin roads, in the early hours of Friday when a fire was started at the front door of the property at around 3.30am.

The 16-year-old and two 21-year-old women were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

A female occupant escaped the scene through a window before the fire brigade extinguished the fire.

The property was excessively smoke damaged and the front porch and entrance hallway were badly damaged by fire.

On Saturday, police said “a female youth aged 16 and two 21 year old women, arrested by detectives investigating an arson attack on a house in Agnes Street, north Belfast, on Friday 10th June, have been released on police bail pending further enquiries”.

They added: “A 16-year-old male youth was also arrested in connection with the incident and later released on police bail.”
