Teenager in serious condition after Co Tyrone assault

An 18-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after what has been described as a 'horrific attack' in Co Tyrone.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the assault which happened in the Hospital Road area of Omagh around 3am.

An 18-year-old male arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent in Omagh during the early hours of Saturday morning has been released unconditionally.

Ross Hussey, Ulster Unionist MLA for West Tyrone, said: “This was a horrific and cowardly attack. It was pure thuggery at its lowest level and now a young man and his family are going through hell because of it. It is disgusting and nothing can justify it.

“My thoughts and prayers are with this young man and his family and I urge anyone who has any information to contact the police on 101, Crimestoppers or by calling into a police station. If these thugs strike again they could kill someone.”
