Tragic teen Dean Millar could '˜light up any room'

Mourners at the funeral of tragic Londonderry teenager Dean Millar heard how his 'smile and presence' would 'light up any room'.

The 18-year-old had been missing for over five weeks and, during that time, his family and friends had searched along the banks of the Foyle until the discovery of his remains last week.

A large crowd gathered at St Mary’s Chapel in the Creggan area for Dean’s Requiem Mass, officiated by Fr Joe Gormley.

Fr Gormley described Dean as a “beautiful gift of a person”.

Fr Gormley said: “We are conscious that the real pain of Dean’s loss is only beginning for Patrick, Deirdre and Shannon Kelsey and the McDaid and Millar families and Dean’s friends.

“The smile in the photograph that was taken at Dean’s 18th tells of someone who knew he was loved.”

The parish priest added: “Dean’s smile and presence would light up any room.”
