The short video clip shows a car going out of control and tumbling at high speed into a garden – following a two-car collision – on the main road between Rasharkin and Portglenone.

The TUV councillor who posted the security camera footage said the Saturday afternoon accident was the sixth serious incident on the Portglenone Road.

Cllr Stewart McDonald said everyone is thankful that no children were out playing in the area when the car lost control.

“This was terrible,” he told the News Letter.

“That is the sixth smash in two years on a very bad bit of the road.

“There is a long straight road and then a big hump in the road. You can easily lose traction just there.”

The Portglenone Road was closed at the junction of Roguery Road and Largy Road for a number of hours while police investigated.

Speaking earlier to the Ballymena Daily website, Cllr McDonald said: “There is a need for everyone to take heed to the warning which this film provides. Otherwise a tragedy is only a matter of time.

“I would appeal to everyone to slow down in the area at all times but to take special care during the frosty weather when the roads can be treacherous.”

A PSNI spokesman said: “Police received the report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision in the Mount Pleasant area of Portglenone on the afternoon of Saturday, 22 February. The report was received at around 1pm.”

The spokesman added: “Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. Two people – the driver and passenger of one of cars – were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

“Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have captured dash cam footage, to get in touch on 101 quoting reference number 830 of 22/02/20.”
