LATEST: Driving conditions ease for NI drivers after morning commute of heavy snow, slush and ice

TrafficwatchNI is reporting an improvement on roads as the day wears on.

Earlier a statement from the Department for Infrastructure today says: "Temperatures were forecast to fall below freezing and there is a risk of snow and ice on roads.

"The Salting of roads on the scheduled network considered to be at risk is underway this Wednesday morning including rural and school routes in the South and West of the Province.

"Road users are advised to exercise caution when travelling, particularly when driving on untreated roads."

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for snow and ice for NI.

They say that "further snow showers and icy surfaces may lead to travel disruption".

The Met Office add that some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services, there may be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

And the NI Weather & Flood Advisory Service this morning reports: "⚠️ Heavy Snow & Ice affecting parts of NI this morning.

"Take care on the roads!"

Earlier Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey activated emergency funding for local councils affected by flooding.
