Motorists have been warned to avoid the area amid reports of heavy traffic on Wednesday morning.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Due to a serious road traffic collision the M1 has been closed in both directions between Junction 9 Moira and Junction 10 Lough Road.
“The road is expected to be closed for some time and motorists should seek alternative routes.”
There are no further details at present.
