Young person killed in NI road tragedy

A young person has died following a road traffic collision on Friday morning.

The collision happened on Ballybogey Road at the junction of the Tullaghgore Road.

The PSNI confirmed a man lost his life in the single vehicle collision.

Inspector Mullan said: “Shortly after 6:05am, it was reported that a blue Peugeot 207 was involved in the incident. Tragically, the man died as a result of his injuries at the scene.

“The Ballybogey Road at its junctions with Frosses Road and Tullaghgore Road remains closed following the incident.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage available, to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 212 22/01/21,” said Inspector Mullan.

DUP MLA for North Antrim, Mervyn Storey, said his condolences were with the man’s family and friends.

“Sadly, this morning a young person lost their life as a result of an accident on Ballybogey Road,” said Mr. Storey.

“I want to express my sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased,” he added.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said the collision was reported to them shortly after 6.00am.

“The NIAS received a 999 call at 06.10 on Friday, 22 January 2021 following reports of an incident at Ballybogey Road, Ballymoney.

“NIAS despatched one Emergency crew to the scene Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, no one was taken to hospital.”
