Tributes paid to tragic '˜gentleman' Jim Wilson

Tributes have been paid to the 'Richhill legend' who died after a one car collision in the Co Armagh town last Friday.

Jim Wilson, 67, died after his black vauxhall car was involved in a collision at the Stonebridge roundabout on Portadown Road in the village on Friday around 3.45pm.

Mr Wilson, a father-of-five had been one of the founders of Richhill AFC.

On their Facebook page the club say: “On behalf of Richhill A.F.C we would like to pass on our sincere condolences to former Broomhill FC players Simon, Mark, Matthew, Aaron and the entire Wilson family on the passing of former Richhill FC Manager Jim.”

A committee member told the News Letter that Mr Wilson “was always happy and would never have passed you without a big hello”.

He added: “He was very popular and known far and wide you could say.

“He set up Richhill AFC with Jackie McCoo and most people would know him through that.

“His death was a great shock as his son was married last Friday and he is still on honeymoon - and then this happens the following week.”

Other tributes on Facebook include one from Jackie McCoo which says: “Thoughts are with the Wilson family Jim an me worked very well together forming present day R.F.C. and those days we always had good craic saddenly missed!”

On Facebook Karen Currie posted: “Really sorry to hear this sad news. Jim was a real gentleman condolences to all the family x”

And Mark Robinson posted: “Very sad news. An absolute gentleman. My condolences go out to Jim’s family.”

DUP MLA William Irwin added: “I was shocked to hear about his passing. And I want to extend my deepest sympathies to his family at this time.”

A PSNI spokesman said a postmortem was due to be carried out on Mr Wilson to confirm the cause of death
