'˜Viable device' found in garden of house

Detectives are appealing for information following a security alert in the Kinnaird Street area of Belfast last night (Friday, February 3).

At approximately 9.30pm police received a report that a suspicious object had been found in the garden of a house.

ATO attended the scene and declared it a viable device. It has been taken away for further examination.

A number of residents were evacuated from their homes.

The security alert ended at approximately 1.40am this morning, Saturday, 4 February.

Detective Inspector Paul Rowland would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1411 03/02/17. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
