Vigilant leisure Newry centre staff detect parent three times over legal limit

Vigilant staff at a leisure centre detected a drunk parent trying to gain access to a swimming pool to take their three children swimming, according to a post on PSNI Newry & Mourne Facebook page.

The post said the adult was refused entry to the pool complex - understood to be Newry Leisure Centre - as they were “clearly under the influence of alcohol”.

The post said the parent’s car was located a short time later “parked outside the home address”.

After taking a breath test and failing the parent was “arrested and taken to custody where an evidential breath sample” was taken.

The post adds: “Turns out driver was twice the legal limit” and is expected to appear in court.

“Justify drink driving with your own kids in the car?,” adds the post.
