Washed up marker buoy strikes panic into eyes of Ards PSNI officer

A strange looking marker buoy that washed up onto the beach in Portavogie struck fear into the eyes of a PSNI duty Sgt in Ards.

The officer was on the verge of calling the bomb disposal squad because of the unusual looking object until the “more savvy” coastguards correctly identified the piece of marine debris.

In a Facebook post, PSNI Ards wrote: “Question - How do you strike panic into the eyes of the duty Sgt in Ards?

Answer - Send him a photo of a strange object washed up onto the beach in Portavogie.

“Now I know locals will laugh but I hadn’t a clue what this was and was nearly picking up the phone to bomb disposal squad to blow it to pieces. “Thankfully our colleagues in the coastguard were a bit more savvy and identified it as a marker buoy. It was like no marker buoy I had seen before and heart rate has now lowered to normal stress levels.

“I am assured Biscuit and George here remained unfazed and our caller was 100% correct in giving us a call just to make sure.”
