Weather: Northern Ireland set for wet week ahead as Friday provides a welcome break

After enduring the effects of Storm Bram, the Met Office has delivered more bad news in terms of the weather for Northern Ireland over the coming days.

After a windy day for many in Northern Ireland yesterday, the unpleasant weather is here to stay for the rest of the week and into the weekend.

As many people plan to do their Christmas shopping or go to festive parties – the best advice from the Met Office is to bring an umbrella and wrap up warm.

Greg Dewhurst, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, explained: “There’s going to be heavy and blustery showers for many in Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

“There is still going to be strong winds but they won’t be as impactful as those on Tuesday. The temperature will be around 10 or 11°C.

"Wednesday night into Thursday morning will bring the next band of rain and that will be another day of showers.

"Friday is set to bring some respite although it won’t last for long. It is set to be dry and brighter but the temperatures will drop down to 8°C, which is average for this time of year.”

Unfortunately, an update for the weekend’s weather doesn’t get any better for those in the province.

Mr Dewhurst added: “The weekend is set to bring wet and windy weather from the Atlantic.

"This means it is going to be unsettled for pretty much the rest of the week in Northern Ireland – apart from Friday.

"There is a chance that it’s going to be blustery at times across the next few days but it’s certainly going to be less impactful than Storm Bram.

"We would still strongly advise people to check the forecast before leaving their homes.”
