Met Office weekly weather: 'Many of us will notice is how much milder it is' as 'low pressure remains in charge'
Many of us in Northern Ireland will notice ‘how much milder it is compared to what we saw through most of last week’, according to Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkhill.
Adding there will be ‘wet and windy weather around’ he said the most notable difference will be ‘how much milder it is’.
He said that ‘looking at the bigger picture’ it will be ‘windy through northern Scotland with gales and there is wet weather pushing through Northern Ireland into parts of Scotland, but in between those showers there will be brighter sunnier breaks’.
He added those breaks will be ‘a fair few degrees higher than we have seen in recent days’.
Andrew Bishop from the Met Office added that ‘low pressure remains in charge of the weather across the UK through next week, and with milder air now in place the majority of any precipitation will fall as rain, except for some areas of higher ground in Scotland which could see some wintry showers’.
She added that ‘temperatures will be back to around average for the time of year after a notable spell of below average temperatures since the start of the year across the UK’.
The news comes as the Northern Ireland weather forecast from the Met Office says today (January 12) will have ‘variable amounts of cloud and some bright or sunny spells’.
‘There will be a few showers around, and some longer spells of rain spreading eastwards through the afternoon,’ it adds.

‘Strong southwesterly winds this morning’ and a ‘maximum temperature 9 °C’.
Tonight will be ‘a cloudy evening and night with showers or some longer spells of rain’.
And ‘drier weather will spread from the west later in the night’ with ‘light winds’ and a minimum temperature 4 °C.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be ‘largely dry with some bright or sunny spells, chance of the odd shower along the northwest coast’.

There will be a maximum temperature 7 °C.
Meanwhile, it will ‘Start off dry on Wednesday before rain spreads east for a time’ and ‘mainly dry on Thursday and Friday, perhaps some rain developing for a time’.
Looking further ahead, the outlook for Friday 16 Jan - Sunday 25 Jan is: ‘It will likely remain changeable and at times unsettled for the UK as a whole through this period.
‘Further areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic will tend to dominate, meaning showers or longer spells of rain for many parts.
‘Wet weather will more likely be most prevalent across western areas, though given the potential for low pressure systems to become slow-moving in the vicinity of the UK, heavy rain is possible anywhere at times.
‘Periods of windy weather are also possible from time to time. Temperatures probably near normal overall, though the possibility for some colder spells in the north, with the potential for associated winter hazards, and occasional milder interludes further south.’
And looking further ahead, the outlook for Monday 26 Jan - Monday 9 Feb is: ‘Low pressure is likely to continue to dominate the UK, at least at first, meaning an ongoing likelihood of further spells of rain and windy conditions from time to time.
‘That said there should also be some brief interludes of drier weather too.
‘Temperatures probably remaining close to average, particularly in the south, but there is the possibility of colder conditions, associated with higher pressure extending from the north or northeast, returning to northern areas around the turn of the month.’
