NI weather alert - Heavy rain and some snow due this week as Met Office issues yellow status weather warning

The Met Office has issued a second weather warning for Northern Ireland.

The latest warning is for heavy rain and is valid between 3.00am on Wednesday and 9.00am on Thursday.

“Spells of heavy rain are expected to move across Northern Ireland early on Wednesday, persisting for much of the day, finally clearing on Thursday morning,” reads the warning on the Met Office website.

Twenty-25 mm is expected quite widely but some parts could see 40 to 60 mm, this most likely across northern parts of Antrim, leading to some flooding.”

The weather warning applies to all counties in Northern Ireland except Fermanagh.

The first of two weather warnings for Northern Ireland is for ice and is valid between 3.00am and 10.00am on Tuesday.

Cloudy with rain this evening, some heavy and likely turning to snow on higher ground before dying out overnight. Then dry with skies clearing later and becoming cold with a frost and a risk of ice. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Cold, frosty start, then mostly dry and bright. Thicker cloud over Fermanagh in afternoon with a little light rain, but rain and hill snow for many in evening. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudy and quite breezy on Wednesday with rain, some heavy, especially in northeast. Drier, brighter weather will follow Thursday with some afternoon sunshine. Dry, bright Friday morning then rain returning.
