NI Weather: Storm Aiden to batter ALL of NI with very strong 70mph winds this weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow status weather warning of wind for Northern Ireland.

The warning was issued on Friday and is valid between 6am and 9pm on Saturday.

Met Eireann has issued a similar warning for most of the Republic of Ireland but counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare have all been issued with a more severe orange status weather warning of wind.

Storm Aiden was named by Met Eireann on Friday.

“A belt of very strong and possibly squally southerly winds will develop on Saturday morning with gusts of 60-65 mph, perhaps 70 mph on exposed coasts and hills,” said the Met Office.

“The winds will become more westerly during the afternoon and gradually ease across England and Wales.

“However they will remain very strong across Scotland and Northern Ireland into the evening, with possible gusts around 75 mph across the Western Isles.”
