Northern Ireland weather: Motorists urged to exercise 'extreme caution' after another night of freezing temperatures

Police in Northern Ireland have issued a road safety warning this morning after another bitterly cold night.

The PSNI said freezing temperatures throughout the Province have caused difficult driving conditions in many areas.

They urged motorists to "please slow down and increase your stopping distance from the vehicle in front. If you're travelling in an area where the roads are not salted, please exercise extra caution".

A yellow warning for ice is in place until 10am applying to counties Antrim, Down, Londonderry and Tyrone.

Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey told the News Letter yesterday that temperatures last night were expected to be “quite widely -7C or -8C but with temperatures dropping lower in rural areas and over lying snow”.
