According to Oli Claydon from the Met Office the conditions we are facing ‘aren’t unusual for this time in the year’ as ‘we’re getting into late Autumn now so we do see incursions of colder conditions at this time of year’.

He added that ‘recent first occurrence of snow reports in Northern Ireland were:

The Met Office spokesman added: ‘We have a yellow warning for the whole of Northern Ireland from 1700 tonight to midday Thursday, where 1-2cm of snow is likely in the warning area, 3-5 cm is possible over some higher routes such as the Glenshane Pass.
‘Low overnight temperatures also bring an ice risk.
‘Lows could reach -2C on Wednesday night and it will continue to feel cold in the northernly wind.
‘Highs will be limited to 3-5C over the next couple of days, though with wind chill it’ll feel more like -1C.
‘Milder air will move in on Friday night and through the weekend, with rain and wind too,’ he added.
