The latest yellow weather warning is in force between 2am and 10am tomorrow - just before we head to work.

"A band of heavy rain will turn to snow, mainly on high ground, as it spreads eastwards early on Tuesday morning," says the Met Office website.

"Snow may fall to low levels in places before it clears during the morning.

"Temperatures will fall quickly as rain and snow clear, allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces.

"Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Some injuries are possible from slips and falls on icy surfaces."

The Chief Forecaster's assessment adds: "A band of heavy rain will spread eastwards during Tuesday morning, quickly turning to snow on high level routes above 300 metres and to lower levels for a time before it clears.

"Accumulations of 5-10 cm of snow are likely above 300 metres, much of this falling in a short period.

"At lower levels, amounts will be much more variable with a few cm possible in some places while others will just see sleet and rain."
