Woman remains critically ill after Newry assault

The woman in her 50s who was left fighting for her life after sustaining serious head injuries in an assault outside Newry remains critically ill in the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast.

The woman had been assaulted at a house on Hollyridge Lane, between the nearby Fiveways roundabout in the early hours of Thursday (June 30).

The Tandragee Road in Newry was closed on Thursday (June 30) after the incident.

The woman was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry but was later transferred to intensive care at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

She remained critically ill there last night.
