Women rescued from Divis Mountain thanks to Facebook message

Two women have been rescued from Divis Mountain in Belfast after raising the alarm through social media.

The pair had no phone signal so they used Facebook to contact the emergency services, sending pictures of their location.

The coastguard became aware of the situation around 11am yesterday. It has been reported that one of the woman had sustained a suspected broken leg.

A spokesperson told the News Letter: “One woman was injured and another woman came across her. They were unable to phone for help because they had no signal, but fortunately they were able to get a message out on Facebook.

“A police helicopter was able to land near their location and they were taken to hospital for treatment.”
