We are all well aware of the DUP’s readiness to change direction whilst, with the introduction or deletion of a few words here and there, trying to dupe their voters that nothing has changed — witness Arlene Foster’s addition of the term ‘stand-alone’ to her promise of a few months ago to veto an Irish language act.
In her statement about the end of the latest talks process, the DUP leader declared that ‘...a sustainable and fully functioning devolved government will remain our goal’.
No longer any mention of the term ‘voluntary coalition’!
Whatever became of the election promise to bring an end to the pernicious system of mandatory coalition?
