Why is Sammy's call for direct rule not being heeded?

In a Nolan Show discussion last week of the Northern Ireland Audit report on the Social Investment Fund, Stephen Nolan (with the Renewable Heat Incentive in mind) frustratedly put the rhetorical question: 'Does anyone (apart from the politicians) want a return to government at Stormont?'

I think the answer to that question is – a minority, at best.

Why is the DUP not acting on Sammy Wilson’s thinking of a year or more ago that the only constructive way forward is direct rule?

Even a quarter of a loaf is better than no bread!

Sammy tends to be the only DUP politician witb his ear firmly to the ground.
