After testing budget and premium models, this Karcher window vac stands out — and it’s currently 36% off

If you’ve never tried a window vac, it’s hard to appreciate just how much easier it makes life. It’s easily one of the quickest ways to clean glass, tiles and other shiny surfaces without the usual elbow grease. I’m always up for a bit of tech that genuinely helps with chores, and that’s exactly where a good window vac comes into its own.

Over the years I’ve tested everything from bargain supermarket versions to top-end models, and one thing became obvious quite quickly: you really do get what you pay for. That’s why I keep coming back to Karcher.

Most people know the brand for its jet washers, but its window vacs are right up there with the best you can buy.

The current line-up starts with the simple but very capable WV 1, which is priced at £35.99. At the top end sits the newer WV 6 Plus – the model I’ve been putting through its paces.

It’s currently £70.33 in a limited-time Amazon deal, down from £109.99, and at that price it feels like a bit of a steal. Amazon Prime members get free delivery on eligible items. Non-Prime customers may pay delivery charges depending on the order.

The headline feature is its large battery, delivering up to 100 minutes of runtime, along with a generously sized waste tank. That makes it particularly handy for bigger jobs or for cleaning when you’re away from home.

Using a window vac is straightforward. You spray detergent onto the surface with the included bottle, use the attached microfibre pad to loosen the dirt, then run the vac over the area in smooth strokes. The dirty water is drawn through the squeegee into the tank, leaving behind a clean, streak-free finish. It’s fast, tidy and oddly satisfying.

One of my favourite additions on the WV 6 is the battery display, which gives a minute-by-minute countdown rather than a vague set of indicator lights. It also features a wide squeegee head, which made short work of the full-height windows in my conservatory.

There’s also a WV 6 Plus N version, which includes a narrower head. That’s particularly useful for demisting car windscreens. I spend a fair bit of time in a motorhome and on a boat, and a window vac has become one of those tools I wouldn’t travel without. On cold mornings when condensation coats the windows, it clears it in seconds – far quicker and less messy than using a sponge or chamois.

The WV 6 Plus is also the quietest model I’ve used so far, which is a bonus on peaceful campsites, and it’s easy to dismantle and rinse out after use.

The only minor niggle I found was on very dirty exterior windows, where grime can build up along the squeegee edge. If you don’t wipe it clean between passes, you can lose a bit of suction and risk streaks. It takes just a couple of seconds to clear, and I didn’t find it necessary on cleaner interior glass, but it’s worth noting. I also had to tighten the spray bottle cap occasionally to stop a slight leak when angled – again, a quick fix rather than a deal-breaker.

What really impressed me was the battery stamina. After cleaning the entire conservatory, several other windows at home and then taking it away for a week in the motorhome, it still had close to an hour of charge remaining.

As always with Amazon deals, there’s no guarantee how long the discounts will stick around. Delivery prices may also apply for non-Prime members.

If you’ve been curious about trying a window vac, this feels like a good moment to do it.
