Joe Fitzpatrick is looking to take the first step on a successful 2016 when he takes to the ring at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Saturday night.

The Commonwealth Games silver medal winner will be taking part in his fourth fight as a professional when he faces Ruslans Berdimuradovs at the Belfast venue.

Southpaw Fitzpatrick is highly thought of in local boxing circles and he wants to show what he has to offer in 2016.

“I want win number four on Saturday and stoppage number four as well. This year I want to have at least five or six fights and see what happens.

“And after Saturday night I want to get on a few Boxnation shows on television and get my name out there,” he added.

Fitzpatrick has been sparring with James Fryers, Paul Hyland jr and former British Featherweight champion Martin Lindsay in preparation for Saturday.

“Fryers and Hylo are jumping out of their skins and they are ready as well. And Lindsay is top quality and his knowledge and experience is second to none,” said the Belfast fighter.

The main fight on Saturday night is an eliminator for the British super-featherweight title between Fryers and England’s Maxi Hughes.

While James Tennyson faces Antonio Horvatic from Croatia in what could be a warm up for his looming British featherweight title fight.

Paul Hyland Jnr fights Jacek Wlyezol, Fergal McCrory tackles Peter Mellar and Tyrone McCullagh is up against Antons Zacets.

The first fight is at 8pm, with the Fryers versus Hughes clash just after 10pm.

Some tickets will be available on the door - but they are limited.
