Paddy Gallagher looking to get his hands on Celtic title in Cardiff

Paddy Gallagher is finally looking to get his hands on a meaningful title in his 12th fight as a professional as he takes to the ring in Cardiff on Saturday night.

Commonwealth Games gold medal winner Gallagher takes on Tony Dixon for the vacant welterweight Celtic title and the John Breen trained brawler says this is the fight he has been looking for after a few months of inactivity.

“This has been a long time coming,” he said.

“I was supposed to have title fights before and then they fallen through.

“Then there was the whole Prizefighter fiasco that could have led to something good, but it didn’t work out.

“It’s great to get this chance now, so I am looking to make the most of it. I’m very confident going in so hopefully this will take me further on.”

And Gallagher says preparation for this fight has gone very well.

“I’ve been training flat-out for this and I’m ready to rock,” he insists.

“I can’t see me not winning. I suppose if you go into a fight thinking you are going to get beat, then you’re nuts.

“I have trained hard and have done everything I need to win this and I truly believe I am better than him.

“This is going to be live on Spike TV so if I win, then it will give me that extra exposure and I might get an eliminator or even a shot at another title,” he added.

Meanwhile Ryan Burnett will fight in Glasgow on May 28.

The WBO and WBC International bantamweight champion will be looking to push his slate to 14-0 against a yet to be confirmed opponent.

Tommy McCarthy will also feature on the bill as he fights John Lewis Dickinson in a British title eliminator.
