Paul Hyland Jr looking to shine at Europa Hotel

Hyland jr has impressed in his nine fights to date and has attracted a cult following with his all action style.

His last fight against Virgile Degonzaga at the Waterfront Hall, Hyland had the whole crowd on their feet as he stood toe to toe with his French opponent.

The fight was so good that IBF World champion Carl Frampton walked round from ringside to congratulate Hyland on his performance.

And now on February 6 Hyland jr will have another tough test as he face Jan Holec (6-2-1) of the Czech Republic.

It will not be an easy night for the Belfast fighter as Holec is on a winning roll after knocking out an English prospect in Scott Jenkins - who was 14-0 at the time.

But Hyland knows a win over the Czech fighter should see him throw his name into the hat as a contender for the British Title.

And Hyland knows he has to perform at the Belfast hotel.

“I know I have to keep on winning and then see what happens.

“My last fight against Degonzaga at the Waterfront was a war and I enjoyed that - but I have to use my boxing more and not keep getting dragged into these battles,” he added.

And manager Mark Dunlop says there is more to Hyland than getting involved in wars.

“Hylo is much more than a crowd pleaser, he has the talent to go all the way and he has faced decent opponents so far. He is not sitting just outside the top ten of a very strong division by chance, he is there by merit,” added Dunlop

Another fight on the card features former amateur stand out Tyrone McCullagh who will have his third fight in the paid ranks and his first on home soil against Latvian Antons Zacests.

Zacests (2-1) is a former kickboxing champion and comes with a winning record and should be a durable test for the Derry man having gone the distance is his previous three contests.

McCullagh (2-0) has won his first two contests by second round KO’S and he will be keen to keep the momentum going and push himself up the British super bantamweight rankings.

The remainder of the undercard includes James Tennyson the mandatory challenger for the British Featherweight Title, Coailisland hotshot Fergal McCrory, and 2012 Commonwealth Games silver medal winner Joe Fitzpatrick.

The big fight of the night is a British title eliminator between Belfast’s James Fryers and England’s Maxi Hughes.
