Scott Quigg’s trainer Gallagher has taunted and goaded McGuigan in the run-up to the IBF and WBA World clash between Frampton and Quigg.

And McGuigan admits he can’t be bothered with Gallagher’s words of wisdom.

“I don’t think anyone really listens to Joe. It’s just a tactic he uses to bring me down,” McGuigan said.

“But if he genuinely thinks that, then that is up to him. I know there are lots of people out there who admire my work and I’m learning all the time, building my stable and progressing.

“But sometimes you have these issues and you have to deal with them.”

And McGuigan says Quigg’s camp have failed in their mission to annoy Frampton and his team before the fight.

“It’s just them trying to get under our skin and to wind us up,” he added.

“But that was to build the fight up and sell the fight, but the fight is sold now and they are still trying to wind us up.

“But it has backfired on them and you could see that their whole team was angry up there.

“It wasn’t nice but we are glad to be here and appreciate the fact that we are here.

“And it is not my place to bad mouth anyone. I have respect for Joe Gallagher and he clearly has no respect for me.

“Maybe in time he will? Maybe it is an age thing?

“The thing is I have been in few World title fights, a few big fights with David Haye and George Groves coming to the gym. I have worked at headline shows and never once did I have an argument with an opponent’s trainer, but he seems to have these debates with a number of trainers.

“He is constantly having debates with people, so maybe he is trying to make it about himself.”

And McGuigan agrees with Frampton that Quigg lacks ring intelligence and a boxing brain.

“Scott does not adapt. He is told what to do and he is constantly being told how to fight,

“And if you listen to Joe Gallagher he is telling him what to do.

“He is telling him not to freeze when he gets hit with a few shots. Move your head and I think that is just a constant and calming voice.

“World class fighters naturally do things, Scott has to be told how to do things.

“Scott is a good fighter and a decent guy but I thought he let himself down today, but I know after the fight he will be back to being himself,” he added.

And McGuigan is sure that Frampton will have too much on the night for Bury fighter Quigg.

“I am 100 per cent confident that Carl will beat Scott Quigg on Saturday night. There is not one doubt in my mind.

“Because we have done everything and more in preparation for this fight and during camp he has raised himself to a new level.

“It is a level I did not even know was possible but that is in the gym and now we have to go out and do it in the ring.

“I am not sure if he will stop Quigg but he will win the fight.”

And Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn – who promotes Quigg – is not sure if an early stoppage is on the cards tomorrow night.

“They both hit very hard, but I think that for the first round or two they are going to feel each other out,” Hearn said.

“Maybe I am wrong but it is a huge fight and there is so much on the line, so early on things could be cagey.

“Then maybe will think ‘this is the time to pounce’ and go for it. They both hit really hard.

“They both are brilliant fighters, but I believe in Scott Quigg and I believe he will not be denied.

“He just has that look about him that he will not lose the fight.”
