Councillor Thomas Beckett, speaking about the fundraising event, said: “This Charity Golf Day is a perfect way for golfers to enjoy, network and support a good cause while playing golf. Local businesses will also have the opportunity to sponsor one of the 18 holes in aid of charity.

“The Charity Golf Day is the latest of a programme of fundraising activities that have been organised to support my Mayoral Charity, the Mary Peters Trust.

“This Northern Ireland Charity is no stranger to the world of golf and has in fact supported Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy in their early days as they started out on the professional golf circuit.

“I would like to thank everyone who has supported the wide variety of fundraising events held during my term to date, and would ask for your continued support in this sport orientated event. A number of local businesses that I have met during my time as Mayor have expressed an interest in this event; and I hope to see them again on the day. The support of local resident and golf club member Maurice Leathem and Alderman Paul Porter in helping to arrange the day is much appreciated, so thank you gentlemen.

“This Golf Day is another opportunity for people to provide their support for this worthwhile charity. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Lisburn Golf Club for hosting the event and Coca-Cola for its significant sponsorship of the event,” he concluded.

Gillian Shields, Community Affairs Manager, from Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland added: “We were delighted to be partnering with Lisburn Golf Club to support the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day. As a local business we have been investing in community and charitable projects for over 75 years and we are proud to be supporting the council in staging an event which is raising funds for ‘The Mary Peters Trust’. The Mayor’s Charity Golf Day has been hugely successful over the years and I am sure this will continue into 2016.
