Colin Turkington returns home to race at Kirkistown

Colin Turkington will take a break from the British Touring Car Championship as this weekend he returns to his roots to race at Kirkistown his home circuit.

The double British Touring Car Champion will be behind the wheel of a Supercar as the ASK Supercar series pays a very welcome visit for rounds 5 and 6 to the County Down venue.

The ASK Supercar series promises to be one of the highlights of the day with two races and Colin who drives a Subaru in the BTCC is looking forward to getting behind the wheel of one of these machines and also to be reunited with his local fans.

This season the Supercars have raced at Mondello Park and at Bishopscourt and close racing is assured.

Turkington is well used to the cut and thrust that is the British Touring Car Championship and the regulars in the ASK Supercar series will be ready for the challenge as the Portadown driver aims to add to his tally of race wins.

Recent weeks has seen him compete in a variety of cars mainly Historics at various mainland circuits but this is a real treat for his fans as he will be racing on home tarmac.

Meanwhile Five times Irish Tarmac Rally Champion- Eugene Donnelly will make a long awaited return to the Donegal stages, with a Lakeland Tyres backed Mini WRC.

In 2009 the Maghera driver last competed on the Donegal International Rally, and his co-driver from that Tarmac title winning season- Paddy Toner will once again join him.

Not surprisingly McGeehan Motorsport, who helped Eugene to those Tarmac titles and three Donegal International victories in 2004, 2005 and 2008, will be running the 1600cc Mini WRC on this tough three day event.

“I really wanted to compete in Donegal again, several years have passed since my last appearance and this year the entry is really shaping up. I have not competed for eighteen months so I have no high expectations, no big testing or anything planned before the event, I just want to get there,” commented Donnelly.

He will be up against the likes of Garry Jennings, Donagh Kelly and Declan Boyle and he reckons this could be Declan’s year.

The Donegal International Rally reckoned to be the most popular event on the Irish calendar runs from 17-19th June.
