Colin Turkington set to return to British Touring Cars action at Oulton Park

Colin Turkington will be on track again in the British Touring Car Championship this weekend at Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire after having missed the last three rounds at Thruxton.

The BMR team decided to withdraw all four Subarus as a precaution due to a fuel line problem.

Turkington – who was back racing at Kirkistown last weekend – hopes the problem has been sorted and the cars have been given the green light to race.

The season to date has been a troubled one for the new Subaru Levorg which is being used by Team BMR, the cars arrived late for the start of the season with little or no development time and it has been a mix of race and develop ever since.

Turkington has been the fastest of the quartet of drivers and each meeting he has produced a major effort to get the Subaru as high as possible up the grid in qualifying.

“Oulton Park should suit the Subaru better, rear wheel drive cars are suited to the Cheshire track and it is a venue where straight line speed is not as critical,” commented the Portadown driver.

Straight line speed or the lack of has been the major weak point of the new Subaru Touring Car and it is reported that depending on the circuit it can be down as much as nine miles per hour that is critical in Touring Cars where the cars are pretty evenly matched.

Clearly the BMR technicians will continue to work on developing the new Levorg in the hope that they can get it up to speed and their aim must be to make it fully competitive for the 2017 season.

Currently topping the championship table is former champion Matt Neal with his Halfords supported Honda Civic sharing that position is BMW driver Rob Collard, in fact just twenty one points cover the top eight drivers.
