Civil Service North say they expect Shane Getkate to honour his three-year contract despite an approach from NCU Premier League rivals Instonians.

Getkate, who has a contract that involves playing and coaching at Stormont until December 31, is wanted by Instonians after their move for South African overseas professional Keegan Petersen fell through.

The Dubliner has spent the last two years with Civil Service North and was an inspirational presence as Andrew Cowden’s team stunned CIYMS in last summer’s Arthur J Gallagher Challenge Cup final.

But after hearing of Inst’s interest, it is understood that Getkate has told CSNI that he wants to move to Shaw’s Bridge.

In a statement to the News Letter, CSNI chairman Ivan McMinn stressed the club’s wish to keep the all-rounder.

“Shane is contracted with the club until 2017. He signed a three-year contract at his own request which expires on December 31, 2017,” he said. “He is a key part of our side, everyone knows that. We were delighted to get him three years ago, we have worked extremely well together as a club with Shane, he has been very successful. His time at CSNI has been very good for him, he had a good season last year and I have no doubt he will have a good season with us again in 2017.”

Mr McMinn also underlined the coaching work Getkate does at all levels of the club.

“He is a key element of our youth set-up and schools programme and he played a key role in first eleven coaching. The young kids love him and respect him and he is a vital part of our club, developing our youth, which is vitally important for us, and we are aiming to win more silverware in 2017.”
