Derriaghy pair join Berry and Gilmour in Knights squad

Derriaghy captain Craig Lewis and spinner Curtis Moorhead have been named in the Northern Knights' squad for their two matches against the North West Warriors this weekend.

Lewis, the big-hitting Derriaghy captain, is rewarded for some superb performances with bat and ball while Moorhead has been one of the great slow bowling finds of the summer.

Both are in the squad to face the North West Warriors in the T20 match on Friday at Strabane and the IP50 over match on Sunday at Waringstown.

There are also opportunities for Lisburn seam bowler Mark Berry, and big-hitting Carrickfergus opener Michael Gilmour.

No overseas professionals were named in either squad.

Knights and Ireland selector Andrew White said: “The volume of cricket over the coming 10 days is very intense and culminates in a vital three-day game against the Warriors at Comber.

“With that in mind the selectors have taken the decision to rest some of our key players especially in the bowling department. This has opened up a number of opportunities for other players to showcase their talent on the Interprovincial stage.

“The performances of the new additions have been monitored for some time and we feel that they deserve the opportunity to make their mark ahead of the winter programme and 2017. It is important for us to try and broaden the pool of players capable of playing at Interprovincial level and the commitment required of the players moving forward will be key to this.”

Players not available for the T20 match include James McCollum, Gary Kidd, Greg Thompson, James Shannon and Alistair Shields. No club professional players were considered.

Players not available for the 50 over match included Graeme McCarter, McCollum and Kidd. Not selected with the three-day match in mind were Phil Eaglestone and Nathan Smith. Again no club professional players were considered.
