Elks beat Pegasus to progress in Irish Senior Cup

Ulster Elks and Ards are both through to the semi-finals of the women's Irish Senior Cup after exciting wins on penalty strokes.

Talented Elks saw off Pegasus 4-2 after the sides drew 1-1.

And it was the same score in Dublin where a determined Ards siode beat Railway Union 6-5, on penalties to reach the last four of the competition,

Jordan Page gave the Elks the lead in the first half.

Then Pegasus missed a number of chances but equalised with just six minutes left on the clock when Alex Speers scored.

It went to penalty strokes and Elks keeper Rebecca Davidson was the hero of the hour when she saved from Speers and Vanessa Surgenor setting the stage for McCay to score the winner.

The result menas the holders won the shootout 4-2 to march on in defence of their trophy.

There was more penalty stroke drama as Railway Union and Ards also drew 1-1 at the end of full-time.

Chloe Brown’s 41st minute strike cancelled out Kate Dillon’s opener.

After five penalties the two sides still couldn’t be separated at 3-3 and so it went to sudden death with Kerry Harvey eventually ending the drama with the winner for Ards, 6-5 on strokes.

The two Ulster sides are joined in the semi-finals by Hermes 4-0, and UCD who saw off Loreto 1-0.

In the men’s senior cup Lisnagarvey are through to the semi-finals with a 6-3 win at Railway Union.

Sean Murray opened the scoring with Matthew Nelson scoring twice and the other goals coming from Neal Glassey, Daniel Buser and Timmy Cockram.

It was an impressive performance from the Ulster side and they can look to their semi-final encounter.

Three Rock Rovers beat Cork C of I 2-1 while Glenanne came from behind to beat YMCA 5-3.
