The commemorative medal for the 2016 race was launched at an event in the Quarter by North Belfast marathon star Gladys Ganiel, Denise Watson of U105 and Mark McCallion of Titanic Quarter.

The new medal features local views of the renowned Harland and Wolff cranes, Samson and Goliath, plus the famous Titanic ship all incorporated into the number ten.

Gladys Ganiel, who competed in the race back in 2009, will face Olympic bound steeplechaser Kerry O’Flaherty who had a runaway success at Downpatrick.

Last year’s winner Ann-Marie McGlynn will be defending her title while in the mens race last year’s top two Conor Duffy and Scott Rankin will be running.

Looking forward to the race Mark McCallion said; “Titanic Quarter’s reputation as a major sporting venue is growing all the time and we are delighted to once again be sponsoring the prestigious Titanic Quarter 10K. This year’s finishers medal which also celebrates the tenth anniversary looks great and is a fantastic memento for all competitors. With over 1,000 runners already registered we are encouraging runners to go online and enter.”

U105 will again be the TQ10K media partners. They will be at the Arch on race day with prizes for the popular Family Mile Run, male and female winners.

Gary Keenan, President of Athletics Northern Ireland states: “Having competed in the race myself in previous years it is amazing to think that this year’s race will be the tenth celebration. The resurgence of road running and development of the Titanic Quarter have gone hand in hand with each other. There are few sports around that welcome the Elite, Club or Recreational sports enthusiasts who compete on an equal footing in the pursuit of their individual goal.”

Entry forms are available from Athletics NI, clubs and leisure centres. Online entries which will close on April 1 are available at www.athleticsni.org.
