Liverpool legend Graeme Souness was in Belfast on Wednesday to showcase the trophy as part of Carlsberg’s commitment to ‘do it better for the fans’ and announce the brand’s massive Euro 2016 ticket giveaway.

Souness admits he is looking forward to what he believes will be one of the best European Championship to date with both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland competing in the same tournament for the first ever time.

“It’s a wonderful occasion to be involved in a major finals. It’s Northern Ireland’s first time at a European Championship so it’s one to cherish and you can see already the fans are excited and will travel in numbers to France. Tickets are in demand and are hard to come by so it’s great that Carlsberg are using their association with the tournament to give fans every opportunity to be there and experience the atmosphere.”

Souness was speaking in Lavery’s bar in Belfast, where Carlsberg gave lucky fans the opportunity to get up close to the Henri Delaunay trophy. The brand is one of the longest standing sponsors of the European Football Championship with Euro 2016 in France being their eighth consecutive tournament.

Carlsberg Brand Manager, Colum Campbell,added: “It’s a massive year for football and we want to give fans the opportunity to be there every step of the way. As expected, there’s been a lot of demand for tickets and unfortunately not everyone was successful so we want to use our association with the tournament to give as many fans as possible the chance to be there and experience the incredible atmosphere for themselves.”
