Crusaders secure first summer signings as defender and striker join the ranks at Seaview

Crusaders have made their first moves in the summer transfer window as defender Graham Kelly and striker Aaron Reid have joined forces with Declan Caddell’s side.

Dublin native Kelly had been a free agent after leaving Coleraine at the end of the season, bringing an end to a difficult three years at The Showgrounds with injuries.

Kelly started his Irish League career at Larne, where he won multiple major honours before making the move to the north coast.

However, he has since been snapped up by the Hatchetmen as they aim for an improved showing next season.

Speaking about the latest challenge of his career, Kelly told Crusaders’ social media platforms:

"I'm absolutely delighted to get the deal completed and become a Crusaders player. “From my first conversations with Declan Caddell and Sean O'Neill, it was clear they had a strong vision for the club and where they want to take the team over the coming years.

"Their ambition, professionalism and plans for the future really impressed me and played a major part in my decision to join.

“Crusaders is a club with a proud history of success and I want to play my part in helping bring more trophies to Seaview.

"I'm looking forward to getting back fit, meeting the supporters and getting started with my new teammates."

Kelly’s arrival is the first for Crusaders this summer and boss Caddell was pleased to obtain his signature.

He stated: "Graham is a player whose qualities and experience speak for themselves.

"He's proven at the highest level in this league, has won trophies throughout his career and brings real leadership to the group.

"We know what he is capable of and we're excited to help him get back to full fitness and playing regularly again.

"We're delighted to welcome him to Crusaders and believe he will be a fantastic addition to the squad."

Kelly’s acquisition was added by the arrival of Scottish striker Aaron Reid after his contract came to an end at Airdrieonians.

The 22-year-old forward joins the Crues on a two-year deal and he is excited to sample his first taste of football across the Irish Sea.

He said: "I'm delighted to join Crusaders FC. It's a Club with a proud history, passionate supporters and clear ambitions for the future.

"I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates, working with the manager and staff, and hopefully contributing plenty of goals for the fans."

Caddell said Reid was a player the Crues had been "monitoring for some time”.

He added: “He has excellent attributes, a real presence in the final third and plenty of potential to continue developing. We're delighted to bring him to the Club and look forward to working with him."

Meanwhile, the north Belfast side have also announced that three players have agreed terms on new deals.

Oilibhear McCart has signed a one-year extension to his contract, with Harry Jewitt-White and Lloyd Anderson prolonging their stay with two and three-year deals respectively.

There has been a departure from the first-team squad as Brendan Hamilton has been released from his contract to join Moyola Park.
