Ex-NI coach Stephen Robinson appointed Motherwell boss

Former Northern Ireland international Stephen Robinson has been appointed permanent manager of Motherwell.

Following the departure of Mark McGhee two weeks ago, the former Oldham Athletic manager took charge at the Scottish Premiership club on a temporary basis, but has now been handed the reins with a contract which runs until May 2018.

“I am absolutely delighted and proud to lead this football club, a club with a rich history in the Scottish game," Robinson told the club's website.

The 42-year-old, who was part of the coaching team in Northern Ireland's memorable Euro 2016 campaign, was one of five candidates shortlisted for the job with the Scottish top flight club.

The club's Board were 'extremely impressed by his plan and vision'.

Robinson added: "My mission from the Board is absolutely clear. Firstly, to ensure the team have a strong finish to the SPFL Premiership season and finish as high as we possibly can between now and May."
