Gary Haveron says Larne have fresh spring in their step ahead of Irish Premiership games Limavady and Portadown

Gavy Haveron says Larne will need to “be at our best” to build on Saturday’s win over Bangor in Tuesday evening’s Irish Premiership clash against Limavady United at Inver Park.

Larne put the disappointment of defeats against big rivals Coleraine and Linfield behind them with a hard-fought win over Bangor, when Paul O’Neill cancelled out Ben Arthurs’ opener before Ronan Doherty netted the winner at Clandeboye Park.

The champions have little time to rest on their laurels with Limavady the visitors on Tuesday, and Haveron says there will be no risk of complacency as the Inver Reds go up against last season’s Championship winners.

“We have Limavady on Tuesday night and we’ve got to be bouncing into that game,” boss Haveron told Larne’s social media channels.

“I’m really looking forward to going back and playing under the lights at Inver Park on Tuesday.

“I think they [Limavady] showed all their character today on a horrendous day going down to Carrick, which is an incredibly difficult place; they got an equaliser in the 92nd minute.

“It shows what they’re about and you’ve got the Lowry bothers there, who are two absolute stalwarts of the Irish League, incredible competitors first and foremost.

“[Jamie] McGonigle has gone in there and really set them alight since he came in and they’re a team that deserve the utmost respect, and it’s certainly a club that we have got massive respect for because they dumped as out of the Irish Cup a couple of years ago.

“We need to be at our best if want to get a result but we’ve got to in there full of enthusiasm having some key players back and available. It freshens us up and the boys that came off the bench have given me real selection headaches.

“I’ve got to look at that and think what’s the team going to be like for Tuesday, we’ve got to play again on Friday, so I’m excited about next week.”

Haveron is relieved to have some fresh options after an injury crisis, which he has hailed as a “real positive” going into this week’s fixtures, with Larne also at home to Portadown on Friday evening.

“We literally at one stage there just about had enough to fill the bench without going into the kids and that’s where we were at, it’s just the reality of it,” Haveron said.

“We had nine players all missing at the one time which is just quite bizarre because it never really happens that way.

“We do have strength in depth in the squad but to miss nine players like we did, and the names that we were missing as well, was difficult.

“To have them back is a real positive going into the next set of fixtures.”
