Glenavon find that winning feeling again


Glenavon picked up their first win in nine games at Coleraine Showgrounds thanks to goals from Ciaran Martyn and Andy McGrory.

It was the visitors who created the first opening as Ciaran Doherty had his namesake in the home goal, Michael Doherty, at full stretch with 16 minutes gone.

They didn’t have ling to wait for the opener though as Ciaran Martyn managed to loop the ball over Doherty from the edge of the box just four minutes later.

Coleraine responded with Curtis Allen striking a post before Ruairi Harkin put the rebound over.

Allen stung Andy Coleman’s hands with a rasper soon after before Jennings almost glanced in Harkin’s cross.

Coleraine had a let off on 52 minutes as Doherty crashed a header off the bar and Martyn’s follow up wad superbly kept out by Doherty.

Niall Henderson was next to spurn a great chance for the Lurgan Blues, but he fired wide after Doherty’s punch clear.

Glenavon finally grabbed their second with 10th minutes to go as Bates was denied by Doherty from close range but Andy McGrory fired in the rebound.

Coleraine’s agony wad compounded as skipper Howard Beverland was sent off for a second yellow after he brought down Martyn.
