'He has been a fantastic signing': David Healy pleased to keep defensive ace at Windsor Park after new contract is signed

Ethan McGee has pledged his future to Linfield after the defender has put pen-to-paper on a new two-and-a-half-year deal at Windsor Park.

The 23-year-old, who joined from Dungannon Swifts in January 2024, was out of contract in the summer and was free to speak to other clubs ahead of a potential pre-contract agreement being signed.

However, he has agreed fresh terms with the Blues that will see him remain at the reigning champions until the summer of 2028.

“I am delighted that Ethan has committed his future to the club for a further two years,” Linfield manager David Healy told the club’s website.

"Since joining us two years ago, he has been a fantastic signing and continues to play an important role within the team and look forward to continuing to work with him.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to Willie McKeown for his work behind the scenes in securing this agreement and for his ongoing efforts to help move the club forward.

"I would also like to thank the board and the club for their continued support in ensuring we were able to retain Ethan’s services.”

The January window has allowed Healy to bring in defender Darragh Leahy and midfielder Adam Frizzell, with Callumn Morrison departing for Dunfermline Athletic.

It is believed that Ballymena United are interested in bringing in Linfield trio David Walsh, Charlie Allen and Chris McKee who are all out of contract in the summer.
