Player ratings from the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup final following Celtic’s win over Rangers:

CELTIC

Joe Hart – The 37-year-old rounded off his professional career with a clean sheet and his 12th winners’ medal. Dealt with some testing corners and was vindicated in his assertion that he was pushed by Nicolas Raskin before Abdallah Sima had a goal disallowed. 7/10

Alistair Johnston – The right-back’s forceful runs forward were a major feature of Celtic’s first-half play and he defended brilliantly. 8

Cameron Carter-Vickers – A colossus at the back for Celtic, making an excellent block from Cyriel Dessers in the first half. 8

Liam Scales – Defended well, although there were some shouts for a penalty when he collided with Dujon Sterlin as he tracked back. Showed confidence on the ball. 7

Greg Taylor – Had his hands full with Dujon Sterling’s forward runs at times but stood up well and enjoyed a couple of tussles with Todd Cantwell. 7

Callum McGregor – The captain did not have the same influence as earlier derbies but his composure and reliability helped Celtic keep their discipline. 7

Matt O’Riley – Showed some good touches but also signs of tiredness in his 51st match of the season. 6

Reo Hatate – The Japan midfielder could not exert his influence in the midfield battle. 5

James Forrest – Looked after the ball well and had a good run and shot early in the second half which was blocked. 6

Kyogo Furuhashi – Struggled to make an impact in the tight encounter and made way on the hour mark. 5

Daizen Maeda – Looked lively early on and his strong running continued to make him a threat even if he could not unlock the Gers defence. 6

Substitutes – Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah proved the difference. The Portuguese midfielder seized the initiative with a run and shot, when he might have passed out wide, and Idah was on hand to net the rebound. Nicolas Kuhn played his part too. 7

RANGERS

Jack Butland – Largely quiet afternoon but could not hold Bernardo’s swerving effort in his only real test. 5

James Tavernier – Allowed Daizen Maeda in behind early on but went on to cope better with the Japanese wide player than usual. His corners caused problems. 6

Leon Balogun – An emphatic early challenge on Maeda set the tone for a strong display. 7

Ben Davies – Got away with a handball scare after the ball hit him at close range. Did himself justice. 7

Ridvan Yilmaz – Overcame a fitness doubt to start and was reliable at the back without breaking forward to effect. 6

Nicolas Raskin – A disciplined first-half display but penalised for the push on Hart which ruled out a goal. Got more involved in attacking play as the game progressed. 6

Mohamed Diomande – Got closer to the Celtic midfield and battled hard. 6

Dujon Sterling – Made some strong runs down the right to carry the game forward. 7

Todd Cantwell – Looked dangerous running with the ball and set up a half chance for Cyriel Dessers. 6

Fabio Silva – Had a shot saved after beating Alistair Johnston but faded out of the game. 6

Cyriel Dessers – Worked hard as Rangers pressed high up but went off at half-time after picking up a knock. 5

Substitutes – Adbdallah Sima saw his goal disallowed and put himself about. Rabbi Matondo looked particularly lively as Rangers brought on attackers to try and change the game with Scott Wright and Ross McCausland also showing up. John Lundstram came on in stoppage time and was lucky he did not connect with Bernardo with a wild lunge. 6
