The big striker was simply a class apart as he wickedly punished his former employers in a totally one-side Big Two clash at the Oval.

Substitute Aaron Burns also bagged a late brace - he was only on the pitch a mere three minutes when he struck. The Blues have now won on their seven visits to the East Belfast venue which has become a happy hunting ground for them.

But Glentoran were a total shambles. They were fortunate they were not punished even more..

The Danske Premiership title may have eluded David Healy’s Linfield, but they can now fix their sights on the Irish Cup final against Glenavon on May 7

The Blues roared from the traps and were in front on four minutes.

Waterworth displayed what an instinctive predator he is when picking up Kirk Millar pass. He turned before firing a fierce drive under the body of Elliot Morris

Healy’s boys should have been out of sight in their next attack when Ross Gaynor industry on the left created a great chance for Paul Smyth, whose shot grazed the post.

Gaynor robbed defender Barry Holland on the half-way line and, after a 30 yard dash, his shot flashed inches wide.

Glentoran at last abandoned their defensive responsibilities and threatened at the other end for the first time with David Scullion firing over a cross for Curtis Allen to blast high and wide.

Allen then tried his luck with a speculative effort from distance, that goalkeeper Gareth Deane saved with ease.

Stephen Lowry held his head in frustration just on the half-hour when he was picked out by a clever free kick from Gaynor, but the completely mis-kicked with only Morris to beat.

Waterworth showed his team mate how it should be done two minutes later. The ball fell invitingly for the deadly hit-man 30 yards from goal and his volley blazed high into the top corner.

The industrious Allen attempted to breathe new lift into the Glens by firing in a 35 yard shot that stung the hands of Deane.

The visitors started the second half as they ended the first with Gaynor flicking a clever little pass in to the over-lapping Niall Quinn -- a second half replacement for Matthew Clarke, who came off worse after clashing heads with Jimmy Callacher before the break -- but he fired across the face of the goal.

But the Blues were still not finished. Aaron Burns was only on the pitch three minutes after replacing Millar when he slotted home an easy chance following great work by Lowry and Haughey.

And, five minutes from time, Burns struck again, heading home a Niall Quinn cross, with the Glens in disarray.
