IRISH LEAGUE: Ballinamallard boss Whitey Anderson ready for Carrick challenge

United make the long trip from County Fermanagh to face fellow strugglers Carrick Rangers in what is termed as a ‘six-pointer’ for both sides.

Only two points separate the teams in the Danske Bank Premiership table, with Rangers lying in 11th place.

“They say that you next games is the biggest – well that certainly applies to this one,” said Anderson.

“They pulled back to within two points of us after their win against Dungannon.

“Carrick had a poor result against Crusaders in the cup last weekend, so they’ll be wanting to put that right. In saying that, I’m sure their priority is staying in this league.

“Our boys know the importance of the game. We lost to Carrick twice at home this season – they were two very poor performances.

“Nothing other than a win will do us at Solitude – we badly need three points.”

Anderson claims he is becoming accustomed to relegation scraps come this time of the season.

He added: “Last year we were in a similar position, but we picked up 14 points in our last 10 matches. If we could repeat that, it would be fantastic.

“We are now approaching the ‘business end’ of the campaign. A lot of our lads have been here before, so they know what’s required.

“Carrick are also battling for their lives, but we must make sure we go there pumped up to win the game.”
