IRISH LEAGUE: Interim boss Pat McGibbon targeting points for Portadown

McGibbon’s first game at the helm resulted in a late 1-0 defeat to Coleraine last weekend.

The Ports remain in seventh spot in the table, but just eight points off bottom club Warrenpoint Town with eight games remaining this season.

On Saturday McGibbon will take his side to east Belfast to face Glentoran at The Oval, looking to earn their first league win since a 2-1 success over Linfield on February 12.

“We have a massive run of games coming up, so it is imperative to try and get points on the board,” McGibbon said.

“Last week was positive against Coleraine, apart from the result. But there are good things to build on.

“There is a fine line between winning and losing, but if we apply ourselves the right way then hopefully the quality will shine through and we will get the results we want.”

McGibbon is hoping to have strike duo Mark McAllister and Gary Twigg available for tomorrow’s game.

“Mark returns from an automatic suspension, but he will have to sit out the next two games after Saturday,” McGibbon added.

“Gary was close to returning last week so that’s a positive. We also have Marcio Soares and Nathaniel Ferris who came on for his senior debut against Coleraine.”
