“Our aim is to catch Cliftonville, who are only one point above us,” said the big rugged centre-back. "We want to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.

“There is no reason why we can’t catch the Reds and then Linfield after that, although the Blues are six ahead of us. We want to qualify for European again. We've done it for the past two years and it would be good to do it again.

“To do that, we’ll have to put a good run together. It would also be good to do it automatically, instead of going through the play-offs.

“European qualification helps provide the finance for Gary (Hamilton) and Windy (Paul Millar) to put a good squad together, just like they’ve done . . . we want to kick on.”

Lindsay hailed the contribution of striker Declan ‘Fabio’ O’Brien, who has bagged four goals in his last four games. With Eoin Bradley currently sitting out a six game ban, the veteran striker has grabbed his chance.

"Fabio has been banging in the goals over the past few weeks," he added. "He thrives on the type of crosses that Andy Hall puts into the box."
