His sixth goal was one of the easiest he’s likely to get. He tapped home from close range after Rhys Marshall, playing in centre midfield, saw his shot well stopped.

It came against the run of play as Ards had been pressing.

Substitute Guillaume Keke thought he should have had a penalty on 58 when his shot struck Kyle Neill’s arm. Then a minute later, Jonny Taylor threatened to open the scoring but his close range prod at goal was superbly saved by Jonny Tuffey.

Glenavon, in turn, could have been ahead on 49. Goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey spurned the chance to become the first goalkeeper to score in the Danske Bank Premiership this season when he saw his spot-kick superbly saved by Aaron Hogg.

Ards had the better of the first half and must have wondered how they weren’t ahead at the break.

Stuart McMullan rattled the crossbar on 34 with a header from Kyle Cherry’s corner.

Joe McKinney had also been presented with a glorious opportunity to open the scores. His fell on 18 as he latched onto a through ball from Jonny Taylor but saw his one-on-one effort stopped by Glenavon’s Jonny Tuffey.

His opposite number had two saves to make, book-ending the half. The first came after good play from Paddy McCourt and Mark Sykes saw the latter test Aaron Hogg with a low effort.

Then on 44, the visitors broke after Taylor had blasted over. Moorhouse fed in strike partner Eoin Bradley down the right. He cut back but Hogg was equal to his well-struck shot.

Late in the game, Joel Cooper saw a second yellow for Glenavon but his side finally hold on to a lead to increase their lead over seventh placed Ards to five points.
