Warrenpoint Town boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a deserved 3-1 win at Shamrock Park as Portadown’s slide towards the drop zone continued.

Marcio Soares put the Ports ahead on 14 but goals from Conor McDonald and Stephen Murray put Warrenpoint ahead.

A further late Murray goal sealed Town’s comprehensive victory.

Warrenpoint stay bottom but edge closer to Ballinamallard and Carrick, who lost 2-1 at home to Glentoran, with Curtis Allen netting both Glens goals.

Portadown’s sixth defeat in seven games leaves them only five points ahead of the bottom club.
